Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are designed to effectively “cap” off the top of a tooth, restoring its appearance and strengthening its overall structure. Our Annapolis doctors can recommend a crown as the ideal solution for a variety of situations, including a physical injury, tooth decay that’s too severe to be treated by a filling, general weakening, significant fractures, or even purely cosmetic changes.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Cavities are one of the most common dental problems patients of all ages face. They're caused by the accumulation of harmful bacteria in the mouth, and if left untreated, they can seriously damage the health and strength of your teeth.

Thankfully, though, cavities can be treated simply and effectively with a type of dental filling known as a tooth-colored filling.

Tooth-colored fillings are made from durable composite resin, which can be shaded to match the natural color of your smile. This makes it possible for you to treat decay without drawing attention to your treatment.

In the past, dentists used a type of filling known as an amalgam filling to treat decay. Amalgam fillings are made of metal and stand out unattractively against a white smile. What's more, they're sensitive to temperature changes and can develop small cracks over time, putting the patient's tooth at risk again.

Tooth-colored fillings, meanwhile, won't respond to temperature changes. As a result, teeth are better protected from bacterial reinvasion. And because they're more supportive of the tooth's natural structure, patients can retain more of their natural smile for longer.

At other offices, having a custom dental crown created and placed requires two to three appointments. But our Annapolis office is proud to offer same-day dentistry using CAD/CAM technology. CAD/CAM allows us to mill your custom-made crown in-house without having to rely on an outside lab. The treatment process is exactly the same as the treatment process with a traditional crown, the only difference is there's no need for a follow-up appointment. Instead, you can leave with your brand-new crown securely in place.
