At Goodman Dental Care, we strive to stay right on the edge of dental technology and bring the best that the industry has to offer to our patients. For instance, in addition to digital X-rays and intraoral cameras, we utilize digital impressions to make the dental experience more pleasant and to give our patients better results. Now, we are proud to announce that we have recently acquired a new Planmeca CBCT scanner for our Annapolis practice. What exactly does this new technology mean for your dental care? Read on to find out!

What Is a CBCT Scanner?

A cone beam CT scanner is an advanced machine that captures precise images of the patient’s mouth. The patient stands in the middle of the machine and stays perfectly still, and the scanner circles around the head taking hundreds of X-ray images. These images are then compiled into a 3D model. Unlike normal digital X-rays, the images collected from a CBCT scanner provide 360-degree visibility of oral structures, including the teeth, jawbone, gum tissue, and much more.

What Is a CBCT Scanner Used for?

The highly detailed images produced by the CBCT are more than just interesting or fun to look at. They are extremely useful for complex procedures, specifically dental implant placement. Even with years of clinical experience and training, Dr. Goodman wants to do his best and deliver results every time he performs this procedure, which is why we have implemented a CBCT scanner as part of the implant process here at Goodman Dental Care.

What Are the Benefits of a CBCT Scanner?

Although it is possible to place dental implants without the use of a CBCT scanner, this device makes the process much easier and more successful. Before the procedure occurs, we can see exactly where blood vessels and nerve points are located, helping us plan the placement with more precision. We can also determine whether preliminary procedures, such as a bone graft, are necessary to ensure success. As a result, we are often able to avoid or reduce complications, leading to faster recovery, less discomfort, and better implants.

As dental technology continues to evolve and progress, you can count on our team to stay abreast of these changes and to make sure our patients receive the best care possible. With us, getting your missing teeth replaced with dental implants doesn’t have to be complicated. You can enjoy a smoother experience and have reliable, durable teeth again with the help of our CBCT scanner!
