If you found yourself in a dental emergency, then you might be stressed about making sure your smile is okay. You get a visit scheduled later in the same day with your dentist, but you may wonder about what you should expect during it. The good news is that it’s a relatively simple process that gives you the relief you deserve. Here’s what happens during these urgent trips to help you have one less thing to worry about.
Step #1: Pinpointing the Issue
When you were on the phone with the practice, they likely gave you some advice on what you should do in the moment. Stick to what they said as you get to the office. When you do, the front desk team will greet you, get you checked in, and then walk you to your treatment room.
Your dentist will roll by and then first get you out of pain if you’re in any. You may get conscious sedation to help you relax as well, but then you’ll get an oral assessment. It’s likely you’ll get X-rays that way your provider can get a better understanding of the issue at hand.
Step #2: Administering Your Treatment
With the information your dentist gets, a treatment plan will then be laid out. What exactly you need depends on your unique situation. For some, they may only need a minor service, like a filling, that can be done the same day. Others might benefit from a more in-depth one, such as a root canal, to effectively get rid of the problem.
For the latter, there may be a chance you have to schedule it for the near future. If so, then you’ll be given a temporary solution for the time being until you can get the permanent one later on.
Step #3: Getting a Follow-Up
After all is said and done, you should schedule a follow-up visit. This will help make sure you’re healing well, and the problem has been fully taken care of. If you didn’t get the service you needed at first, then it’ll give you something to look forward to and better prepare you for it.
Regardless, an emergency dental visit may have you worried, but you should feel confident going to your dentist. They work to make sure you get the relief you need and get back to a strong smile.
