This year, the slogan is, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ada.org\/en\/public-programs\/national-childrens-dental-health-month\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cChoose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile.\u201d<\/a> Today, the team at Goodman Dental Care, the home of your children\u2019s dentist in Annapolis, is going to talk a little more about NCDHM, and how you can use it to help your child\u2019s smile.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Why You Should Choose Tap Water<\/h2>\n<p>So out of all the possible slogans the American Dental Association (ADA) could have put on their poster for NCDHM, why did they choose to talk about tap water?<\/p>\n<p>The reason is that tap water is actually very beneficial for your child\u2019s teeth, even more so than bottled water. Why? Here are a few reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap water typically has fluoride, which helps your child\u2019s teeth fight cavities. Bottled water, on the other hand, <strong>does not.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Unlike sodas or juices, water is not packed with added sugar, so your child can drink as much as they want when they are thirsty and not harm their teeth.<\/li>\n<li>Also, it rinses the teeth of plaque and food particles, making it the next best thing to brushing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first point is especially important, as an overreliance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltadentalins.com\/oral_health\/bottledwater.html\" target=\"_blank\">bottled water has actually increased the rate of cavities in children<\/a>. This is because they are getting less fluoride in their diet, which is an important part of preventing tooth decay. If it\u2019s a choice between bottled or tap water, always choose tap!<\/p>\n<h2>How You Can Use NCDHM<\/h2>\n<p>One of the main purposes of NCDHM is to get the people around your child to talk about why they should be taking care of their teeth. You\u2019re probably already doing this, but we\u2019re sure a little extra help is always appreciated. That is why the ADA has made a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ada.org\/en\/public-programs\/national-childrens-dental-health-month\" target=\"_blank\">variety of worksheets and games<\/a> for your child that will get them thinking about their teeth (available in both English and Spanish). These are intended to help them understand how their diet affects their teeth, as well as how to properly brush. They will reinforce everything you are already saying to them, and help your child realize why taking care of their teeth is so important.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, when it comes to your child\u2019s smile, you are not alone. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmandentalcare.com\/meet-the-doctors.html\">Dr. Gary and Dr. Jeremy Goodman<\/a> are fantastic resources when it comes to your child\u2019s oral health.
